About BenchVerified
A community-curated index of vintage audio repair professionals across the US and Canada — built so the right tech and the right gear can find each other.
What this is
Vintage audio is a small, devoted world. The people who can still rebuild a McIntosh MC240 or align a Revox tape deck are scattered across small shops and home benches — hard to find, hard to vet, and rarely listed in one place. BenchVerified exists to be that one place: a complete, trusted, regularly-updated index of the technicians actually doing the work.
How verification works
The Verified badge is earned, not bought. To qualify, a technician submits evidence — and a human reviews it. Examples of what counts:
- Photos of working bench equipment (scope, signal generator, dummy load, etc.)
- ISCET or equivalent technical certifications
- Factory authorizations (McIntosh, Marantz, etc.)
- Documented restoration portfolio
Listings without verification are still welcome — they just don't get the badge.
Free for technicians, forever
BenchVerified does not and will not charge technicians a subscription fee to be listed or to display the Verified badge. The platform's value comes from being complete and trusted — extracting rent from the very people who make it valuable would undermine that.
How it's sustained
Operating costs are kept low. Over time, the project will be supported by partnerships with the parts, tube, and equipment suppliers who serve this same community — sponsors who genuinely belong here, not generic banner ads. If you're a supplier interested in supporting the project, please reach out.
Who runs it
BenchVerified is built and maintained by Tim Bytnar — a single human who cares about vintage audio and wanted this resource to exist. Every listing decision, verification review, and editorial choice is made by a person, not an algorithm.
